It’s January. Did you make any New Year’s resolutions?
Among the most common are losing weight, exercising more, reducing personal debt, and so on.
But, did you think about resolutions related to your professional life?
What about improving your recruiting presentations to prospective students? It’s a two-for-one — professional development and a way to increase enrollment. Here’s a tip to get you started.
As an admissions recruiter, I’m sure you are skilled at talking about the features of your school. These are things that are easy to find on the website and in such publications as the viewbook. I bet you can even talk about the benefits of these features. But, to be a really good recruiter, you must move beyond the features and benefits and be able to prove and demonstrate them to students.
For example, in your current recruiting presentations, when you talk about features of our institution, I bet you mention study abroad, internships, and career opportunities. But, so does every other school! So now you have to tell the student what’s in it for them. For each of these features, back it up with a benefit and then demonstrate it. Prove that you can deliver on that promise.
So what are the features that differentiate your school? Can you demonstrate them?
Make a New Year’s resolution to improve your presentation skills and increase enrollment at your school! Practice telling the stories that demonstrate your features and benefits. And then, invite students to be a part of it. When they see themselves being a part of your story, they will want to enroll.
So what’s your resolution for 2010?
