Millennial Parents

I recently spoke at the KACRAO conference in Bowling Green, KY on the topic of millennial parents. So much as been observed, discussed, and written about millennial students, but what about their partners (truly), millennial parents? As I visit campuses across the country, I seem to hear more stories, funny and stressful, about this Mom or that Dad, than I do about the students themselves. While strolling around the room during the presentation, I saw heads nodding in agreement as I shared anecdotal stories. Following my presentation, attendees were gracious with their kind comments, generous with questions, and willing to relive their own “Black Hawk†parent stories.
What I hoped those in attendance would leave the session with is a stronger understanding of the importance of marketing and messaging to parents — this includes graduate admissions professionals. My constant reframe throughout the presentation as I referenced strategies or tactics was, “So what can or are you going to do about this or that.†I have included a link to my presentation on Millennial Parents in hopes that the reader will be more informed and committed to taking action steps that will improve their effectiveness in working with parents during this challenging co-purchase.
